Fetal monitoring
It is a procedure to check the baby’s heart rate and monitor it also observes how the baby is tolerating your contractions. It is done with an electronic fetal monitor or a handheld Doppler device. Sometimes fetoscope is also used which is just like a stethoscope. During delivery, baby’s heart rate is monitored periodically or continuously.
This is situation which occurs when women with high risk pregnancies or women who are having their labor induced or augmented with some medications, in such case they are hooked up to an electronic monitor throughout the procedure of labor.
Fetal monitoring is not painful but being tethered to a monitoring device limits your movement so the latest advancements embrace wireless monitoring device, which monitors while mother is walking.
